Photo of Marie & her husband“This is more than a shop, it’s a community.”
Our love of dancewear started when I was a child doing majorettes. My mum used to make our costumes. Fast forward to having our own children: our daughter danced, and that was where we found our little community.
When she left to attend dance college, we realised we had left something behind too: that community, which had become part of us. I started selling little bits of uniform on social media, at events and on eBay, and helped at shows and exams at local dance schools.
It grew until the storage boxes full of shoes and dancewear had to come out of the bedroom. Ten years ago we stumbled across the little shop when the beautician was leaving, and thought, why not? We opened in the evenings after work, pulled the whole family in to help, and started with one IKEA unit and a single rail.
We later bought Angel Dancewear, a boutique that shipped in from America. That became expensive, and we felt we could produce something similar ourselves, so the designs began. A hobby grew, and today we provide printed and bespoke uniform for dance schools and attend dance conventions every year.
Most of all, we have built a shop where parents, teachers and students feel at home. Somewhere to have a rant and speak in confidence, just as we all used to when we dropped the kids off at dance.
